Roadside Psalm

When the names
are gone from the earth,
when the boundaries are lost in flowers
and the signs fall soundlessly
to either side

when the trees send their children out
into the meadows
where our subdivisions crumble
and this highway washes down
to silt the sea,

still your breath
will stir the pine boughs
over me
and the star in your eye
will warm the stone that carries on
my name

Here I lie
disintegrating under your touch
Turn over, love
and touch me again
